I dig out to the right depth, lay and compact a solid sub-base, and set the levels so rainwater runs away from your house rather than towards it. Where the ground holds water, I'll talk to you about drainage, whether that's careful falls or a drainage channel. It's this groundwork that stops slabs rocking, sinking or pooling a few winters down the line.

There's no single "best" patio. It depends on your home, your budget and how much upkeep you're happy with. I'll talk you through the options honestly:

Patio repairs, cleaning and regrouting
Not every tired patio needs replacing. If the base is still sound, jet washing, regrouting or swapping a few damaged slabs can make a big difference. If it's rocking underfoot, sinking or draining badly, I'll tell you straight whether a rebuild is the better long-term option.
